NS Museums

The Nova Scotia Gov’t wanted an app to help tourists find and explore our many museums. Touring the province, they could find information about the 100 plus local museums, discover by nearestlocation, category, or by keyword search. Users can display information about the museum, or view a location map with the route to the museum plotted from their current location. I provided UI and UX design.
With the museum finder, travellers can hop around the cities, towns, and remote locations of Nova Scotia and easily find all our wonderful museums and historical attractions. My first steps were to brainstorm and understand what the typical users might be like. I developed some proto personas, empathy maps, and sketches before going hi-fidelity to begin understanding the users and investigate what they might be looking for and the features they would need. This would help me not only solve their pain points, but also help me better deliver on the business objectives.
Unfortunately, the museum finder app never saw the light of day as the company developing it closed, but it was a fun and interesting project. As the sole person working on it, I learned a lot about the value of process. Step by step, starting and with the basics helps develop the design based on user needs, rather than preconceived notions about how it should work.
‍
Having an extremely limited brief without a defined product also helped me sharpen my initial ideations and fact finding process, and helped my improve my process and workflow when information is limited.
